Shawnee Water Odor Explained

Recently, you may have noticed a taste and odor change to your tap water. Due to recent heavy rainfall, strong winds and changing temperatures, a naturally occurring process has taken place which causes the lakes that supply us our water to stir, leading to sedimentation rising up from the lower layers of the lakes. These conditions can create taste and odor problems with our water supply.
City staff are making every effort to alleviate the current issues and do not anticipate the conditions to last much longer. The Shawnee Municipal Authority wants to assure you that we are consistently treating the City's water supply and are meeting and exceeding DEQ and EPA standards and that your drinking water is safe.
If you have any further questions please call Mike Nelson at the City of Shawnee Water Treatment Plant at 273-0890.
