An official Situation Report will be issued after 1:00pm 05/20/2013 but here are some updates and information:
1) PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE TO THE AFFECTED AREAS. Let the professionals do their job of assessment and secondary search and rescue as required. Additional sight-seers only congest the area further negatively affecting the victims.
2) The responders have plenty of food and water and supplies. Nothing more is needed at this time.
3) Additionally there are plenty of staff in the field at this time, individual volunteers are not needed.
4) Donations of clothing or other goods should be delivered to the Salvation Army, 200 E 9th St, DO NOT BRING ITEMS to any of the shelters or responder locations.
5) The Baptist Convention has chainsaw relief teams for those not insured, elderly, handicapped, or otherwise unable to do or hire their own debris removal. Please call 405-443-7583, 405-388-6912, or 405-415-5261 for more information or to be considered for help.
6) The Shawnee Animal Shelter does have some space for displaced animals. Contact them at 405-878-1531 for more information. Efforts will be made soon to help reunite pets and owners.
7) The Oklahoma Insurance Commission is staging an office on the second floor of the Expo Center located at 1700 W Independence for assistance with insurance information, processing, and coordinating with your insurance provider if needed
