Severe Weather Forecast Tuesday Afternoon-Evening

Not much has changed in the risk of severe weather from yesterday's forecast. The Moderate risk level remains the same.

Timing remains at 4-9 PM for the Western half of Pottawatomie County and 6-11 PM for the Eastern half of Pottawatomie County.

At 2:00 PM, National Weather Service RADAR shows storms beginning to fire West of Weatherford (Custer County), Northwest of Watonga (Blaine County) and near Pond Creek (Grant County). Southwestern Oklahoma continues to be monitored for potential storm development. This storm development agrees with the forecasted times that our area will be impacted.

A Tornado Watch will likely be issued in the next 1-2 hours.

In addition to the tornado threat, there is moderate risk of very large hail and damaging wind gusts with the stronger storms.

Eventual consolidation of single storms into a cluster or perhaps a squall line later this evening will increase the threat of damaging winds.

Stay Weather Aware!
Moderate Severe Weather Risk Tuesday

All of Central Oklahoma is in a Moderate Risk for severe weather on Tuesday afternoon. Besides tornadoes, hail to the size of baseballs or softballs is possible and winds of 70-80 mph are possible with the stronger storms.

Exact timing and location of the development of storms remains undetermined. Most computer models have storms developing ahead of a dry line which is expected to be along the U.S. Highway 81 corridor (Enid to El Reno to Chickasha to Duncan) around 4 PM. Supercell storms are expected to develop and the atmosphere will be even more conducive to shear after 7 PM.

I am recommending to the public that they monitor the weather forecast and conditions all afternoon for chances that storms will develop early. If storms do not develop in the early afternoon, I encourage people to get what they need to do accomplished by 4 PM. After that, stay close to home-monitor the latest weather conditions- and be prepared to implement your tornado safety precautions.
