Protect Yourself During a Tornado

With severe weather always a possibility during this time of this year make sure you are ready to Protect yourself during a tornado.

Where you seek shelter depends on where you are when the tornado is approaching;

If you are inside a building

o Go to a pre-designated shelter area such as a safe room, basement, or storm cellar, or the lowest level.
o If there is no basement, go to an interior room away from corners, windows, and doors in the lowest level of the structure. If you can, get under a table or heavy furniture
o Protect your arms, neck, and head

If you are in a trailer or mobile home

o Leave immediately and get to a storm shelter or the first floor of a sturdy building

If you are caught outside

o Don't try to outrun a tornado in your car
o Get inside a storm shelter or nearby sturdy building
o If you are in your car, never get under an overpass or bridge.
o If a sturdy building is not available, seek shelter in a low-lying area-perhaps a ditch-cover your head with your hands, a helmet, or a coat or blanket if you have one
