The much-anticipated Downtown Streetscape Project officially began on January 19. The project will be constructed in two phases. Phase 1 will include Main Street from Beard Ave. to just west of Bell Ave. Phase 2 will include Main Street from just east of Bell Ave. to Oklahoma Ave. Phase 1 is expected to take up to 120 days to complete. Phase 2 is expected to take up to 180 days to complete.
The community is encouraged to make a conscious effort to shop and utilize services downtown during construction. Many businesses can be accessed through the alleyways, and sidewalk access along Main Street will be maintained throughout construction, with only brief disruptions. Questions about the project should be directed to Michael Ludi, Assistant City Engineer at 405-878-1506.
When complete, the project area will feature new sidewalks, curbs, landscaping, street lights, street trees, pedestrian improvements, utilities, traffic signals, and an entire new roadway. The project is funded by the City's Tax Increment Financing District balance, a grant from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, and City street funds.
