18th annual Gardening with the Experts

The Shawnee Beautification Committee will present the 18th annual Gardening with the Experts seminar on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center, 45th Street entrance. Three outstanding horticulturists will make presentations. Lisa K. Hair, Groundskeeper/Gardener for Oklahoma Baptist University will speak about her experience with plants that have minimal requirements for water. Linda Vater, Oklahoma City KFOR television personality will show examples of her work in landscaping with bulbs. The third speaker is Casey Hentges, Host of the Oklahoma Gardening television program. She will provide a visual tour of the OSU Botanical Gardens.<br>

A new feature this year will be a seed swap that will occur at the close of the program from noon to 1pm. Saturday, January 27 is National Seed Swap day. Lindsay Goodson, Organization Lead for the Blue Zones Project Pottawatomie County will be overseeing the seed swap at one of the tables outside the auditorium. Seeds to be swapped should be placed in sandwich size plastic bags with the contents labeled on the bags. Seeds can be for vegetables or for flowers.<br>

A continental breakfast will be served beginning at 8:30 am and is provided by Vision Bank. The program begins at 9 AM and will conclude at noon. Those attending are encouraged to bring some favorite garden tips that will be collected and reproduced so that all who attend will have copies. Prizes will be awarded to three outstanding tips. In addition a number of door prizes from area merchants will be distributed.<br>

Tickets for the event are $10 and may be purchased at the door, at the Greater Shawnee Area Chamber of Commerce at 10th and Bell or at Shawnee Garden and Landscape on Hardesty Road.<br>
